Enable Arabic on Windows

Older Windows editions of Shamelah require the system locale for non-Unicode programs to be Arabic. This is a one-time change; English applications and documents continue to work normally.

Windows 10 Pro

  1. Open Settings → Time & Language → Language.
  2. Under Preferred Languages, add Arabic (Saudi Arabia) and include the optional features.
  3. Open Control Panel → Clock and Region → Region → Administrative.
  4. Select Change system locale, choose Arabic (Saudi Arabia), confirm, and restart.

Windows 10 Home or Standard

  1. Open Settings → Time & Language → Region & Language.
  2. Set the region to Saudi Arabia and add Arabic (Saudi Arabia).
  3. Use Control Panel’s Region → Administrative page to change the system locale.
  4. Restart the computer.

If Arabic appears as boxes or question marks later, return to this lesson and confirm that you changed the system locale, not only the keyboard language.
